About Livonia Wildlife Management Area

Located in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, the Livonia Wildlife Management Area (WMA) encompasses a substantial tract of bottomland hardwood forests, swamps, and waterways near the Mississippi River. The area was originally established to provide managed habitats for game species and to conserve Louisiana's unique wetland ecosystems. The landscape features a combination of hardwood timberlands interspersed with cypress-tupelo swamps and bayou corridors, creating a rich environment to support a diverse range of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, waterfowl, squirrels, and numerous species of fish. Historically, the WMA has played a key role in regional conservation efforts to preserve vital habitats that have been largely altered by development and agriculture along the Mississippi River floodplain. Outdoor enthusiasts frequent the Livonia WMA primarily for hunting, especially during the firearm deer and waterfowl seasons, as well as for birdwatching and fishing along the bayous and ponds. Multiple boat launches provide access to the waterways, facilitating fishing and small craft paddling. Though there are no developed campgrounds within the WMA, dispersed camping in accordance with regulations is permitted. The area's vast and relatively remote environment offers visitors a chance to experience Louisiana's bottomland forests and wetland wildlife away from heavily developed recreational sites. Livonia WMA’s proximity to the Mississippi River also adds interest for anglers targeting species like largemouth bass and catfish. Its blend of swamp, hardwoods, and water bodies attracts a dynamic mix of wildlife, contributing to its appeal to hunters, naturalists, and anglers alike.
